Choice of Narrative
Draw from Personal Literature:
Within the events of TFIOS, Hazel Grace has a tendency to refer back to her favorite novel An Imperial Affliction by Peter Van Houton. Her connection and relationship to the character in this book allowed her to discover more about herself and how she views life in general.
TASK:
Just as Hazel Grace relates to the novel, "An Imperial Affliction" a student would be encouraged to discover what piece of literature has impacted their life like "An Imperial Affliction" did with Hazel Grace. After choosing a piece of literature the student would then write a personal narrative on how the piece of literature has affected their own life, and what it has helped them to overcome.

Reflect:
Hazel Grace describes herself and Augustus as grenades. It takes a majority of the novel for Hazel Grace to find that Augustus was just as much of a grenade in her life than she was to him. Her fear of causing destruction lead her to believe her life was a ticking time bomb of pain and loss.
TASK:
Writing Prompt - If you were to describe yourself as an inanimate object what would you be?
Write a narrative from the perspective of that inanimate object and describe the relationships, settings, and emotions that surround you. How do you interact with the world around you from this object's perspective?
